If the landlord withholds in bad faith
If the landlord willfully fails to comply with the itemized-notice/refund requirement, the tenant may recover up to twice the amount wrongfully withheld (AS 34.03.070(d)).
14 days to refund if the tenant gave proper notice and there are no deductions; 30 days if deductions are made or notice was noncompliant. No interest. The 2-month cap does not apply where rent exceeds $2,000/month. Per the 2024 Alaska Dept. of Law consumer guide.
